Avid Xlookup user forced to used Index Match for the first time

As an avid user of XLOOKUP, I recently found myself needing to navigate the world of INDEX-MATCH for the first time. While XLOOKUP has been my go-to for three years, I encountered a scenario where it simply wouldn’t work. To my surprise, the INDEX-MATCH combination proved to be incredibly effective and efficient. Despite any mixed opinions about its relevance, I strongly recommend learning this formula duo. It’s a valuable tool that enhances your spreadsheet skills and expands your data management capabilities.
Hey guys, making this post to say that some formulas are still useful despite getting hate on here. I’ve started using excel 3 years ago and I’ve only had to use xlookup for my look ups but I just ran into a situation where xlookup wasn’t working and I had to use index match. Damn this formula combo is really good and I would recommend learning it if you haven’t already

- Vlookup / Index disappearingApologies if I'm asking a really dumb question, I am somewhat new to excel. I'm having a problem with a macro-enabled workbook. I have tried both Index and Vlookup, but both formulas just disappear and only leave behind the last value they found. Attached is a massively simplified (and ugly) version of what the spreadsheet is supposed to do. The issue I'm having is that every time I add anything new into the empty slots of column B, Vlookup completely disappears from the cell it's in and just leaves behind "Item B" or whatever the last value it searched for was. Is this supposed to work this way? I also tried Index, and the result was the same. I don't know how to figure this out without manually re-writing the formula every time the list of items changes, which is a huge pain.
