Creating a graphic with custom located cells populated by a pivot table
Our take
I want to create a graphic with drop down menus that work off of each. So, I select the "Bore size" and the "Class". After I want custom placed cells to populate with the appropriate information based on a separate worksheet that has all of the information for each value. (First Picture Below)
Red represents my drop down menus. Once I have populated that, I have a separate spreadsheet (pictured below) with the columns detailed for which variable they are to fill, and it will give me my values accordingly.
What terms and capabilities with Excel should I be researching to be able to achieve this?
I'm assuming "Pivot Tables" for referencing the information from Sheet 2 to Sheet 1, but I don't know how to get the information to place itself appropriately into the blue sections. Do I have to merge cells to fit there, or can I draw custom cell placement? TIA
Also, does anyone know what you would call this type of chart in Excel? The best answer I have so far is "Lookup-Driven Dashboard".

- Need to create a diagram of connected pointsSpreadsheet looks basically like this: Across the top row and down column A are sites., in order. If there is a connection between "Site A" and "Site B" the "Site A" row will have TRUE in the "Site B" column, and vice versa. If there is no connection it will be "FALSE," if we failed to connect to "Site A" to test the connection to "Site B" that column will say "Diag Fail," and finally "Site A" to "Site A" has the value "Self". What I would like to generate is a series of dots in an image for each of the sites, and then a line that connects them if there is a connection. I'm pretty sure I've seen this done in a pivot table in the past, but it's been too long. Edit: Stole u/bradland 's example screenshot. - Making a fillable form with dropdowns and sections that can be added and moved easily**SEE ATTACHED IMAGE** I am attempting to improve this spreadsheet. I have a decent amount of experience with Excel but I am unfamiliar with the terminology require to describe the exact functions I am attempting to implement. The function of the sheet is to log various statuses and information pertaining to ladders and their inspection status. Each workbook has a header section and a footer section to diffentiate between clients. The sections that detail the individual ladders need to be moveable / re-order more easily, and also be able to insert a blank ladder section for any new ladders that come into service. The reason excel was selected is for access reasons. All of our clients use excel, but if there is an objectively better tool for the job that is part of the Office suite that people can use via the web or with their Office licence then I will consider that. Thank you to everyone who is able to provide some insight into this. https://preview.redd.it/7ln3oocpcjvg1.png?width=1405&format=png&auto=webp&s=584525d55bd27779bd56a9d746b5dcc6dd913c70 submitted by /u/WillowDime [link] [comments]
- How to organize a sheet based on how many times a certain value in a column is duplicated, and have all other columns follow?Hope the title is descriptive enough... i feel like i always struggle to describe excel stuff efficiently. I am a complete excel beginner! So i have a dataset that is 3000+ rows long. For the sake of ease (and also to not share PHI), I made a shortened 27-row long example; this is what is shown in the screenshots. The data I'm working with is downloaded from a website we use to give people questionnaires. Sometimes, people do not have very straightforward answers to each question, so we type in "comments" in those cases to help clarify the exact answer participants gave. The data I'm working with lists the ID number we gave to each participant; the "variable" AKA the name of the question (tells me exactly which question it is in our questionnaire); which "session" AKA appointment the question is from (we repeat the questionnaire multiple times per participant throughout a year, some in-person, some over the phone); which coworker left the comment (commenter); and finally the actual comment itself. We are trying to see which questions/variables were given comments most often. This is a replica of what I have: https://preview.redd.it/9lvlnwplfgng1.png?width=1025&format=png&auto=webp&s=4716f993d500383af6307b8fb1724fef5b8626e1 This is what i WANT it to sort of look like: https://preview.redd.it/3d4w5a6ofgng1.png?width=980&format=png&auto=webp&s=dd32c658aceadd0afe5c427f0ec19177226d5081 In other words, I want: A count of how many times each type of variable repeats in the excel file. the dataset to be organized from which variable appears the MOST often at the top, and the ones that show up the LEAST at the bottom. to get rid of all rows that were for a "test" participant (notice the "test" rows 8, 18, and 26 in the first screenshot are gone in the second). to be able to find an exact question from the questionnaire website based on this sheet. for example, if I wanted to look more into the context behind row 5's comment, I would know to go to our questionnaire website, go to participant 111's questionnaires from the Lab 1 appointment and specifically look at the alcohol_amount1 question. In other words it is important to keep the participant number and session information. It doesn't need to look exactly like the second picture, that was just the first way to organize it that came to mind. As long as it fills the above requirements that all I need that's what matters. I was trying out pivot tables but I couldn't really get it to look in a way that made sense to me. I really don't know what else to do besides comb through all 3000+ rows one by one... sorry if any of this doesnt fit the exact posting rules. I tried. thanks for any help in advance🥹 submitted by /u/soupysyrup [link] [comments]
- Exporting just one sheet?Looking for a clean way to do this. I've got a spreadsheet with multiple sheets that refence eachother for preparing data for a customer. Obviously I can just print one sheet but what I would really like to do is export the "customer" sheet as a new excel document. Ideally with some of the values becoming their data on the new sheet, but other cells keeping their formulas Example, first box would be what the cells on the export sheet output, next being their formulas. the second set would be how I would like to export, Hard coding the values as regular numbers that are referenced from a different sheet, but keeping the formulas that do math on the same sheet. Is this possible? https://preview.redd.it/cstcpxl78vqg1.png?width=181&format=png&auto=webp&s=f85a19322898ac8a3556d059ba1c5ad6dba7b867 =DifferentSheet!P7 =A1*10 =DifferentSheet!P8 =A2*10 =DifferentSheet!P9 =A3*10 https://preview.redd.it/s4xpp55h8vqg1.png?width=181&format=png&auto=webp&s=962737308118022dbc6a060481514fdc07c1e261 11.5 =A1*10 12 =A2*10 14 =A3*10 submitted by /u/223specialist [link] [comments]
