Document control can present challenges when using SharePoint with embedded Excel files in Word documents. When you update calculations in an Excel file, they may not retain the changes if they reference a SharePoint link. This issue arises when multiple users access files, as only the original user has the necessary permissions. Despite efforts to remove the SharePoint reference from the Excel file, it reappears upon saving. Addressing this will enhance collaboration and ensure that all users benefit from accurate, updated calculations.
Hi, I'm working on documents that contain either an embedded Excel file in a docx or the document record has a docx and an xlsx individually.
For some reason, when we update calculations in the Excel file, the calculations don't "stay" in that Excel doc, if you click on the Fx it will say the link is Sharepoint!My file path! and then the calculation.
Which does no one any good because only I have access to my Sharepoint and these files are accessed by dozens. We've tried everything to remove the Sharepoint reference in one xlsx and as soon as you save, it pops right back in there.

- How do you handle version control when multiple people touch the same Excel file?My team has a shared Excel file on SharePoint that three of us need to update throughout the week. Nothing crazy, just sales forecasts and pipeline data. The problem is we keep overwriting each other's changes accidentally. One person opens it, forgets to close, someone else saves over their work. We tried naming conventions like v2 and v3 but that got messy fast. I know co-authoring exists but sometimes people just don't refresh or they open the desktop version while someone is in the browser. What systems or workflows actually work for keeping things straight without a dedicated data person? - SharePoint references won't updateHi there. My apologies if this has been asked before - I couldn't find a similar post, but I might have missed something. I have many workbooks that use SharePoint URLs to pull values from separate workbooks. These are just straight up single-cell references, no SUMIFs or anything fancy. Notably, I do not get a #REF? error or anything like that. This happens even if the workbook it's referencing is open, and it happens in multiple workbooks where I have these kinds of links. A lot of these are columns where each cell references a cell in a column in another workbook. To fix (or make) these links, I copy the column from the referenced workbook and paste as links in the workbook where the links belong, but several times, when I do this, it turns AutoSave off and won't allow me to turn it back on unless I undo the paste, and instead of all paste options showing in the context menu, it only shows paste normal and paste links (no paste formatting, paste formulas, etc.) What the heck is going on?!
