Excel not finding a common stock lookup based on ticker symbol

Our take

If you're encountering issues with Excel not recognizing the iShares Global Energy ETF (IXC) when searching by its ticker symbol, you're not alone. This problem often arises due to regional settings or data source limitations. Despite extensive web searches confirming IXC's presence on the NYSE Arca, Excel may default to displaying an unrelated Australian company instead. To resolve this, consider checking your data connection settings or using alternative methods, such as manual entry or dedicated financial data add-ins, to ensure accurate stock information is accessible.

I have an excel sheet that looks up stock values. It works well for all stocks and EFTs except for one which is ishares global energy ETF (IXC) which trades on the NYSE ARCA exchange (NYSEARCA: IXC). When it searches IXC it only finds a theraputics company trading on an australian exchange (ASX:IXC).

IXC should be an option - doing a web search of "stock IXC" brings up several pages of the correct ETF.

When I force excel to show me options, only the australian company is shown from the list.

Are there any other options I can try to get the correct stock to show?
