Forgot the password to an important Excel file and now I’m completely locked out.
Our take
Locked out of an important Excel file due to a forgotten password can be incredibly frustrating. If you've already tried your usual passwords without success, you might be seeking legitimate methods to recover or unlock the file. There are various free and paid tools available that can help, each with different levels of effectiveness. Exploring these options can provide a path forward, whether through software solutions or expert assistance. Remember, it’s important to choose reliable tools to ensure your data remains secure throughout the process.
It’s not sheet protection, it’s a full file password (asks before opening). I’ve tried common passwords I usually use but no luck.
Is there any legit way to recover or unlock it? Free or paid tools, methods, anything that actually works?
Would really appreciate any help. TIA.
EDIT: Solved, I remembered the password the second I posted this thread.

We have tried looking for exports from that sheet, looking for unencrypted copies, using passwords the she used in that era, and zipping the file then viewing it with a zipped-file viewer.
