How do I improve performance for a large Excel spreadsheet file on WPS Office?
Our take
Running WPS Spreadsheets on an older PC and hitting some frustrating sluggishness on a particularly heavy spreadsheet. Lots of data, a fair number of formulas, and some pivot tables and the whole thing crawls when scrolling or making edits. Picked WPS Office specifically because of its reputation for being lightweight compared to MS Office but the performance on this file suggests lightweight doesn't mean fast when the document itself is demanding enough.
In Excel there's a Performance tab in the options that gives you some control over calculation settings, hardware acceleration, and other performance related behavior that can make a meaningful difference on heavy files. I'm trying to figure out if WPS Spreadsheets has equivalent settings worth knowing about or if there are other approaches that help with performance on demanding files specifically.

- Slow spreadsheet - need troubleshootingHi, I have a spreadsheet that has two tabs, one is essentially the original data which is YTD driven for a particular GL account, the company has smaller amounts of transactions, so by December we are talking about maybe 3-5k rows of transactions for the account total. The main tab being utilized, has about 30 columns of look up and sumifs formulas referencing the source data and in total approx maybe 500 rows by year end? To me it doesn’t seem excessive. I’ve dealt with way heavier spreadsheets that have more omph and run faster. But for some reason this one is slow as all hell to work in. I’ve even tried barcoded some data and not seen any improvement. I’m not too techy into what else could be slowing it down. And ideas on what to troubleshoot from here? submitted by /u/SlideTemporary1526 [link] [comments]
- How to check/improve for perfomance on workbookSo last week my colleague was working on some super simple reports files. But her laptop was getting super slow (not usual), we thought it was suddenly her laptop having issues and it didn't help that she also had a few workbooks open at the same time. Now this week and I starting to use them and I am noticing a similar slowdown. So wondering what are some check and debugging we can do to check performance. These are old reports file, my first assumption is that they used to have a few connections aren't in use anymore or they are named ranges that overlap. Overall the file is simple and self-contained, but the issue could arise when we add other tabs from other similar reports that keep the same named range name but reference the other file. (Think a file that calculates a country's cost and revenue and we need to add another one to do a comparison). I guess I will start erasing those connections and named ranges first, but wondering what other checks are often done and how do you do performance checks (find which sheet or formula is taking the most compute power) submitted by /u/KezaGatame [link] [comments]
- Optimizing data entry in Excel file on SharePoint w/ 5 users: Is MS Forms + Power Automate the way?I want to optimize data entry for an Excel spreadsheet stored on SharePoint, used by 5 data enterers. It has around 300 entries/rows and 17 columns on the main worksheet. 4 other worksheets contain additional variables/columns for the same entries on the main worksheet. 8 other worksheets contain extensive instructions for the systematic literature review we are conducting. Edit: Our current approach has each of us open the Excel file in our desk top app for data entry. The issues I want to solve are: Improved data entry environment: 1) Some cells end up with extensive/long text entries. Users resize cells to optimize their view, but that screws up other people's views. We need data entry solution that allows large data entry areas for certain Excel cells, but not others. 2) Decrease users mistakenly entering data in wrong cell. formatting issues caused by each user doing their own rogue formatting (Despite discussing not messing with formatting in couple of meetings, these people, led by our boss, keep doing it!) excel sheet freezing for short periods of time mouse pointer highlighting cells above the cell to which it is pointing A bit of Googling led me to MS Forms + Power Automate. Would this solve the issues described above and be stable. Is there a better solution? - How to ENLARGE a spreadsheet to fit a page? This is the exact question I have: https://www.reddit.com/r/excel/comments/1kyt0dv/how_to_enlarge_the_content_to_fit_the_page/ that's a year ago with no answer. Wonder if anyone knows a better solution other than manually trying the zoom and keep increasing it till it's too big for 1 page, then back off a little. Seems LOOOOWWWW tech. FYI - anyone saying to click the Fit sheet to one page, fit all columns or fit all rows, that works for BIG sheets. It only shrinks the page. https://preview.redd.it/3tsrk658lqzg1.png?width=263&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6754edbb7cc3eda4457bd4e1b86e9400a645e73 Seems for this decades? old program, there's still room for more features? Again, seems the only work around is to click on custom scaling options and manually try numbers over 100%?? https://preview.redd.it/qkji3uzhlqzg1.png?width=543&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ba8a5e9b462eed3560ad9972d8a56be741f7bc6 submitted by /u/Kangaloosh [link] [comments]
