Sorting and rearranging data using Pivot Table
Our take
In managing data effectively, sorting and rearranging can enhance clarity and insight. When tasked with organizing Drawing IDs in ascending order while summarizing the quantity of pieces, using a Pivot Table can be a powerful approach. However, if the Drawing IDs don’t display in the desired order, it may lead to frustration. While Pivot Tables offer robust functionality, it's important to explore additional methods if the output isn’t meeting your expectations. Let’s delve into potential solutions to ensure your data is organized effectively and intuitively.
I was given a task where I need to rearrange the Drawing ID in ascending order and in each drawing ID, there has its own no. of pieces (qty). I used chatgpt and it said to use Pivot Table. It was my first time using Pivot Table and I dont get the result I wanted.
It went well when summing up all the pieces for each drawing ID from different group no. But the drawing ID is not in its ascending order.
From the Pivot Table, the Drawing ID is not in ascending order.
Is Pivot Table the only way?

- Sort a Pivot Table slicer by another columnI’ve got a relatively simple question compared to some of the other content here: For a project I’m working on I’ve had to convert from using Power Pivot and a Data Model to normal Tables/Pivot Tables without Power Pivot to accommodate some Mac users in my org. When rebuilding some of the pivot tables and slicers, one of my most used ones is a Fiscal Quarter & Year slicer/column which contains data formatted “FQ1’26”, “FQ2’26”, etc. The result of this is that the slicer orders the entries “FQ1’26”, “FQ1’27”, etc. I have what we can call an index column that is “20261”, “20262”, etc that was used in Power Pivot to sort the Fiscal Quarter & Year column - however I’ve struggled to find a way to replicate the functionality outside of Power Pivot. Is there a way in a normal Table/Slicer to sort the Slicer column by another data column? submitted by /u/gnartung [link] [comments]
