Why does Excel struggle so much with mixed data in the same column?

Excel’s struggle with mixed data types in the same column can be frustrating, especially when dealing with exported files. Despite a visually appealing layout, the presence of numbers, text, currency, symbols, and even blanks can lead to complications during sorting, filtering, or calculations. It often seems like Excel requires a pristine dataset before any analysis can begin. Many users wish for a straightforward method to automatically normalize this data, eliminating the need for tedious manual adjustments each time they work with diverse information.
I keep running into this with exported files. Same column, but you’ll have: numbers,text, currency,symbols... sometimes even blanks or notes Visually it looks fine, but the moment you try to sort, filter, or calculate… everything breaks. It feels like excel expects everything to be perfectly clean before you even start working. I kind of wish there was a simple way to normalize this automatically without having to fix it manually every time..
