Guatemala/Acatenango - How to pack?

My friend and I are planning to visit Guatemala for a week in November, mainly to hike Acatenango! We’re staying a few days in Antigua and then a few days at Lake Atitlan.

I’m a huge planner and the logistics of luggage/packing is stressing me out.

I was planning to bring a 35L backpack (Cotopaxi Alpa) and small day pack for the entire trip. After researching, it looks like the 35L is what I would need for the volcano hike, but I don’t want to be hiking with a week’s worth of clothes/toiletries/etc.

Do people normally leave things at their accommodation in Antigua? I’d like to keep my luggage to the big backpack and a small day bag, but I’m considering bringing a smaller backpack (20-25L) for the hike.

If anyone has any recommendations on what to do, that would be awesome!
