anti-connectivism

Reconsidering the real legacy of Minsky and Papert's perceptron critique

The perceptron controversy didn't kill neural network research in the 1970s. That's the myth Minsky and Papert's critics have long fought, and it's worth reconsidering. Their 1969 book was read later as an anti-connectivist manifesto, but at the time, it barely shifted the community's direction. The real AI winter had other causes. Understanding this distinction matters, it reframes how we talk about progress in machine learning.
