Anticipatory Music Transformer

Exploring how a pretrained AI piano model improvises live with a human player

There's something quietly radical about a piano that listens. This project takes a pretrained AI model, the Anticipatory Music Transformer, and lets it improvise live alongside a human player, all without retraining. The trick is in the biases: out-of-key notes get suppressed, chord tones get lifted, and the model steps aside when your hands are busy. It samples about a second ahead, then resamples when you change chords. Hand-tuned by ear, sure, but the results speak for themselves.
