Shopify's Checkout Blocks Rewrite Delivers Faster Loads and Leaner Bundles

Shopify's latest rewrite of Checkout Blocks is a smart, focused move. By migrating five high-traffic UI extensions to remote-dom with Preact and Polaris, the team cut bundle sizes and load times significantly. This is the kind of practical optimization that makes a real difference for merchants. The shift to TypeScript and a new API version signals a clear commitment to performance. Starting October 1, 2026, only the updated versions will be supported.
