Spatial Data Reveals How Brain Cells Arrange Themselves

Neurons, astrocytes, and microglia don't just populate the brain in random clusters; their precise arrangement matters more than their sheer numbers. Using spatstat raster layers and point process models, researchers can now ask how these cells sit relative to one another. This spatial perspective shifts the focus from counting cells to understanding their relationships. Where a cell sits reveals how brain tissue organizes itself, offering a clearer path to interpreting neural architecture.
