Why AI struggled to tag 126,000 ASMR clips

If you're training a text-to-ASMR model on 126,000 recordings, you need every clip tagged with its sounds. Frontier models seemed like the obvious labelling shortcut. They weren't. Gemini 3.1 Pro hit a 0.325 F1 score against human judges on real ASMR clips. It detected brushing 92% of the time on clean sound effects, but only 0.18 on actual recordings. Paper rustling was nearly invisible. The lesson is straightforward: don't trust AI to hear what humans do. Build your own judging panel.
