A new workbook saved to a sharepoint is excruciatingly sluggish

I create a book1.xlsx and it's blank, save it to my desktop and it works as expected. Changing cells is instantaneous. Typing in a cell is instantaneous. Hitting enter to finish editing that cell is also instantaneous.
Then I save it to our organizations SharePoint, which happens to be overseas. Suddenly, every action is met with nearly half second lag. I can start typing in a cell at a normal speed and it lags, characters show up in chunks as I type. Even single-clicking on different cells is met with lag. This is in the desktop excel, not web based.
Why is this happening? Every online resource tells me I have too much data, too complex of a formula, but there is none of that in here. When I open an excel file from a sharepoint it's supposed to put it on my local machine, and then upload changes as I make them in the background. It's worked flawlessly for years. Now that this SharePoint is based overseas it becomes a sluggish nightmare from the get-go.
Is there something I can do to stop this behavior? Turning off autosave does not work.

- Why is my SharePoint file not opening the latest version for the user?We have a couple of linked shared SharePoint excel trackers. I was asked to make some changes ( new list dropdowns, update a formula). I would make the changes, save, and users kept complaining about things being broken, cannot update links messages etc. So today I pulled the files offline, fixed everything, locked with password (sheet and workbook), and locked the ranges. I archived the original files and replaced them with my local version. Then I asked the user to open it, bam old version, autosaves over my file. Replaced again. asked them to right click from the online folder to open, old version. click directly on SharePoint link to open in browser, old version. In the end I was so annoyed I renamed the files. Obviously my prev changes were getting partially or wholly overwritten by other's files, but I am not sure what was happening today. How do you ensure to open the latest version of the file? - Excel buffering while working between 2 workbooksHi everyone, Since the second last Office update, working in split screen with multiple excels has become very tiresome. When working between 2+ workbooks, my excel suddenly needs a few seconds to "load" the excel book before I can start interacting with it. Since the same update, it is almost impossible to work in a shared excel because everytime an edit is made by a different user, it has to restart to reflect the changes. While I can probably learn to live with these issues, I would prefer not to. It is quite frustrating. I have tried looking for this issue only but haven't had any luck. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any insight on how to fix these problems. Thanks! - Slow spreadsheet - need troubleshootingHi, I have a spreadsheet that has two tabs, one is essentially the original data which is YTD driven for a particular GL account, the company has smaller amounts of transactions, so by December we are talking about maybe 3-5k rows of transactions for the account total. The main tab being utilized, has about 30 columns of look up and sumifs formulas referencing the source data and in total approx maybe 500 rows by year end? To me it doesn’t seem excessive. I’ve dealt with way heavier spreadsheets that have more omph and run faster. But for some reason this one is slow as all hell to work in. I’ve even tried barcoded some data and not seen any improvement. I’m not too techy into what else could be slowing it down.
