Navigating the complex conference submission landscape can be challenging, particularly with the recent uncertainty surrounding NeurIPS. Many are understandably confused by the sudden silence following initial reviews. Given that the ICLR abstract deadline precedes the NeurIPS results announcement, a critical question arises: can a submission be resubmitted to ICLR without triggering flags on OpenReview? We address this common concern and encourage users to explore the platform’s guidelines for clarity.

The recent Reddit post from /u/ihatesalad1 highlighting the confusion surrounding NeurIPS deadlines and potential ICLR resubmission touches on a growing anxiety within the AI research community – the unpredictable nature of peer review and the increasing pressure to publish. After a very silent discussion period, we are in a very confused state with regards to NeurIPS, and really unsure what to make of everything. We do not wish to withdraw the submission since we have no idea what the reviewers and AC think of the paper, having deserted the conversation after a hopeful set of initial reviews. As of currently, ICLR abstract submission deadline is before the NeurIPS results announcement. Are we allowed to resubmit as an ICLR abstract, or will OpenReview flag this and consider it problematic?
