Can you transfer only highlight color from one file to another?
Our take
Hey all. I’m trying to figure out how to save myself A LOT of time every month. I currently work off of a pretty lengthy report that I need to rerun every couple of weeks. Each row is a different “project” for me so it’s important that I have these highlighted colors that mean something from a quick glance. Some will show up on the next report and some will not. When I rerun the report I lose all my highlights and manually have to compare the sheets and make the highlights match.
This may be a long stretch, is there a way to recognize the data from original report and apply the highlights to new report? If it helps provide information- these are exported into excel as separate files.
For example- old sheet has Smith in green, Doe in orange Johnson in grey (grey will not show up on new report sheet) and Jones un-highlighted. Can I grab highlights from old sheet and put them on new sheet so smith Doe and jones will have the correct highlight colors?

- Conditional formatting highlighted cellsHoping you can help me! Everyone at my office is a huge novice with Excel - I understand the basics but am not terribly great myself. We need one (hopefully) simple thing. Essentially, we have a dataset that we want to flag column A with a highlighted color if anything in that row is a color. Column A will always contain one of 5 words -- I've already done that with data validation. But what we want is, for instance, if I highlight cell H7 in yellow, it would then highlight A7 with the same color. I tried playing around with conditional formatting but I wasn't able to get it quite right. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give! submitted by /u/THE_GREAT_PICKLE [link] [comments]
- Highlighting duplicates from two different worksheets, but only when all of the data in a row matchesHey guys. Sorry to post such a random question. Essentially, I've got two sheets I'm working off. The jist is on sheet 1 I've got new fresh data, on sheet 2 I've data from a few years back. Essentially, I want to paste in the old data into sheet 2 and have it highlight on sheet 1 if the data matches everything columns A through E on each so that it isn't used again. I've tried everything I can think of, and I'm probably missing something really obvious. I get Too Many Arguments error, or it only matches data on a single column. Can anyone point me in the right direction as I'm pulling my hair out over this. Much appreciated submitted by /u/Neon_Banana_Pickle [link] [comments]
- Anyway to display who made an edit in a cell adjacent to the edit and also make certain cells automatically change color?Hello! I am looking to revamp some documents that my department at work uses (most are on OneDrive since they are getting rid of the majority of our physical storage drives by Q4 of this year.) For several of our spreadsheets, there is a checkbox to see if a task was completed. Is there anyway for an adjacent cell to display which user checked off the task? I know how to make the adjacent cell say true or false, but I was hoping there was a way for it to print the user ID, as people are often forgetting to initial which tasks they have done (A few have complained that there are several people in the department doing nothing all day and I want to prove them wrong). A similar question. I have one specific spreadsheet that uses multiple colors to display what needs done with the data. The cells in columns C through G are the ones that get colored. Again, we use check boxes to show which steps of the process have been competed. Is there anyway to have the cells in individual rows change color depending on which boxes have been checked? Right now we change colors manually. No color means that nothing needs done and none of the boxes are checked Orange means it needs completed now and none of the boxes are checked Blue means it should only be completed by request and none of the boxes are checked Magenta means that steps 1 and 2 are complete, but step 3 still needs completed. The first 2 boxes are checked Green means it is competed. All 3 boxes are checked. I cannot provide my current spreadsheet because I would 100% lose my job if I did. Removing sensitive date would more or less remove everything form the spreadsheet. (names, addresses, what product they are using, etc.) submitted by /u/Cioger [link] [comments]
