I have a spreadsheet where I want to return a subset of rows.
There are 3 relevant columns: A, B, and I. They are all text values.
- I want to return all columns where column A="B" ("B" is a person)
- Of that subset, I want to see all rows where column I does NOT equal "P" ("P" is a location)
- Of that subset, I want to see all rows where column B's text value "blah" (a task) doesn't also exist as the column B value in the subset of rows where A="B" and I DOES equal "P".
In other words, me, a person, am going to location P today, and I want to find out if there is a task that I can do there that hasn't been done there before, but HAS been done at a different location.

- How to organize a sheet based on how many times a certain value in a column is duplicated, and have all other columns follow?Hope the title is descriptive enough... i feel like i always struggle to describe excel stuff efficiently. I am a complete excel beginner! So i have a dataset that is 3000+ rows long. For the sake of ease (and also to not share PHI), I made a shortened 27-row long example; this is what is shown in the screenshots. The data I'm working with is downloaded from a website we use to give people questionnaires. Sometimes, people do not have very straightforward answers to each question, so we type in "comments" in those cases to help clarify the exact answer participants gave. The data I'm working with lists the ID number we gave to each participant; the "variable" AKA the name of the question (tells me exactly which question it is in our questionnaire); which "session" AKA appointment the question is from (we repeat the questionnaire multiple times per participant throughout a year, some in-person, some over the phone); which coworker left the comment (commenter); and finally the actual comment itself. We are trying to see which questions/variables were given comments most often. In other words it is important to keep the participant number and session information. It doesn't need to look exactly like the second picture, that was just the first way to organize it that came to mind. As long as it fills the above requirements that all I need that's what matters. I was trying out pivot tables but I couldn't really get it to look in a way that made sense to me. I really don't know what else to do besides comb through all 3000+ rows one by one... sorry if any of this doesnt fit the exact posting rules. - I need advice with navigating a large spreadsheetIf there's a beginner subreddit, let me know. Navigating seems to be a nightmare in this particular spreadsheet. Perhaps I should separate into more than one spreadsheet, and create links? I have columns all the way to IA, and 5000+ rows. Say my cursor is on AX300 and I want to get to the row that has has in the first column "Washington". Currently we search for Washington, then scroll all the way over to column AX. 12,000 times a day. - combining two columns into one without vstack or an arrayi have two columns of names on two separate sheets of a workbook. on a third sheet, i want to combine all of the (unique, but that part is easy) names into one column. from there, some vlookups nested in iferrors pull in additional from whichever sheet the name came from (looks for the name in the larger spreadsheet; if it's there, do the vlookup, but if there's an error, check the smaller sheet and do the vlookup). vstack does this nicely, but because it returns an array, i can't use basic sorting anymore. the sort function exists, but we want to be able to do different sorts at different times and this sheet is for use by my less tech savvy coworkers, so i can't rely on that. a recommendation of =query1 & query2 was attempted but i ended up with the first row of each spreadsheet in one cell. please let me know if anyone else has ideas! i've been googling but keep hitting walls :') submitted by /u/nidoqueenofhearts [link] [comments]
- How to sum all cells in column B where column A in the same row contains a specific string of text?I have a spreadsheet with names in column A and numerical responses in columns B, C, etc. I want to make it so that if, in a given row, column A contains a specific name (say, "Bob"), then the numerical value in column B in that same row will be added. Basically, I want the sum of all the rows in column b for which column a contains "Bob". I can't just sort by column a because sometimes it will contain multiple names per cell (ie Susan, Bob), and I need the equivalent numerical value to be added to both Bob and Susan's total. I've tried google searching this but I can't figure out how to specify same row but different column. I know I could probably do this with what I know already using just like... a lengthy chain of conditionals, but last time I tried that I ended up with an excel file that crashes my computer every time I try to open it, so I was hoping there's a better option.
