Excel pasting text into multiple rows instead of line breaks in one cell
Our take
Are you encountering an issue in Excel where text pasted from multiple lines appears in separate rows instead of remaining in a single cell with line breaks? This common challenge can disrupt your workflow, especially when dealing with numerous rows. Fortunately, there’s an easy solution that allows you to achieve the desired result, keeping all text in one cell while ensuring the second line appears underneath, just like using Alt+Enter. Let’s explore a practical method to streamline this process for all your data at once.
Hi, I’m copying text that looks like this:
thème Marches publics :
Fourniture de livres actualisés (2022–2026 minimum)
But when I paste into Excel, it splits into two different rows instead of staying in the same cell with a line break.
I want each item to stay in one cell, with the second line appearing underneath (like Alt+Enter).
I have many rows, so doing it manually isn’t practical.
What’s the easiest way to fix this for all rows at once?
(Excel in French if that matters)
Desired result :
EXCEL version : 2016

- Pasting to Excel isn't working correctly - updating text to column makes it worseI've been copying and pasting data into excel the past few weeks just fine, but recently it takes every line break as a new cell. I've tried resetting the text to column fields like everyone suggests, but all it does is keep the top row of my text. The other rows just disappear. submitted by /u/xturvr [link] [comments]
Bonne journée, submitted by /u/RowennaQH34 [link] [comments]

- Paste Without Format NOT ctrl+VI looked everywhere but couldn't find a satisfactory answer (which probably means it doesn't exist). I am managing a shared excel file with people who will copy and paste information in and will be able to grab that information and do things with it. The issue, is every time they paste something it breaks my conditional formatting which is the main way I am able to sort through and organize what they give me. Is there a way to have the default past as paste without formatting because I can not control how they paste the information in. (No asking them to do ctrl+Shift+v will not work, please don't even recommend it.) If there are any other ideas on how to deal with this issue, please let me know. EDIT: NO CTRL+SHIFT+V I am not the one pasting these values in, others are! Conclusion: There isn't (currently) a way to do this, but the general consensus is to have them paste all the information into its own thing and then use power query to get the data I need. Thank you all for the advice! submitted by /u/United-Twist-3839 [link] [comments]
