Is it possible to create a custom sort order?

Our take

Sorting data in a custom order can enhance clarity and organization, especially when standard numerical or alphabetical sorting doesn’t meet your needs. While traditional methods may seem limiting, there are approaches you can explore to achieve a more tailored arrangement without compromising the legibility of your spreadsheet. Although using numeric prefixes is one option, it can appear clunky.

This is more of a curiosity than a problem I HAVE to solve, so it's not essential if I don't get a solution!

I have some data that I wish to sort, but rather than 1-10 or A-Z, I need it to do a specific order. Is this possible?

  1. Ai
  2. Up
  3. Ye
  4. Un
  5. No

EDIT: I know that I could just put the number in front of the words, basically like I have done here and than sort numerically. It just looks a bit clunky, and also I have very narrow column for this info as I need the whole sheet to fit on the screen and be legible.
