Is it possible to have sheets displaying specific parts of a 'main' sheet that also update automatically?
Our take
Sorry, I had to repost because apparently my title wasn't specific enough.
basically, I have a project im working on that im using execl for. What I wanna do is make a giant list with Execl and then have multiple sheets displaying specific info from the main list and still have each sheets be able to able to organize/filter the mini list it has.
EXAMPLE:
MAIN LIST
Cake - Vanilla - 2
Cake - Chocolate - 1
Cake - Strawberry - 1
Donut - Vanilla - 1
Donut - Chocolate - 3
Cookie - Chocolate - 2
VANILLA LIST
Donut - Vanilla - 1
Cake - Vanilla - 2
CHOCOLATE LIST
Cake - Chocolate - 1
Cookie - Chocolate - 2
Donut - Chocolate - 3
STRAWBERRY LIST
Cake - Strawberry - 2
kinda like that, but I would also like it if each time i updated the main list, it would automatically update the relevant list.
ex: i add 'macaroon - Strawberry - 1' to the main list, and then it automatically shows up in the Strawberry list above 'Cake - Strawberry - 2'
I've tried to turn the main list into a table and then made another table on separate sheets, use "= main list ! a1" to copy the data , and use the table filter to show the specific info i want on each one, but when I type new things into the main list, it doesn't update automatically as I would like.
Is there any way for what I want to be possible, or am I gonna have to throw in the towel?

- Looking for project tracking ideasHi, As the title suggests I’m trying to create an Excel sheet that tracks the progress of various projects. Essentially, I was given a messy excel document to look after. I don’t have particularly advanced skills and nor do I want to spend too much time on this. So… One sheet lists projects as rows and they all have a reference code. There is a column designated for “action updates” where people overwrite progress each month. Other columns exist for project status, dates etc. My idea was to create another sheet which also lists the projects but acts as an action/change history log. I attempted to have a drop down through grouped cells that would act as a historic list of all changes and action updates around each project. The row with the corresponding project number would act as a “live view”, so using an X look up to display this data on the original sheet. Is there a better way to create something like this? There must be loads of ways to do something like this, but I just can’t think which way to do it!! Thank you for any help!!! submitted by /u/Formal_Disk_3760 [link] [comments]
- Connecting sheets where I add rows in sheet 1 but want data to stay connected and not change on sheet 2?My title sucks. But here’s my problem. On sheet 1 I have data. Most of is is in row A1, B1, C1…etc. But in sheet 2 I need to break that down into “tiers” so that it shows sheet 1 A1’s data on sheet 2 A1; sheet 1 B1’s data on sheet 2 B2, sheet 1 C1’s data on sheet 2 C3, etc. etc. Then let’s say a new group of numbers in sheet 1 starts at row A3 New group at A5, and so on. Now I know how to connect the cells =sheet1! A1, on sheet 2 etc. The problem is sometimes I need to add rows to sheet 1, but I DON’T want the data in sheet two to change. So like the data I have on sheet 1 A1, B1, C1 has been tiered to sheet 2 but a new set of data comes in and I have to change A1, B1, C1 but now A2, B2, C2 needs to live down on both sheets. How do I ensure that the rows moved down in sheet 1, also live down but stay in alignment with sheet 2? submitted by /u/stretchingmofos [link] [comments]
- How to confront multiple sheets against each other?English is not my first language, if anything doesn't make sense pls ask. I am currently trying to filter a bigger excel for a conference programm, their file was divided as such sheets: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4 -> this containes, for each day in the title of the sheet each conference title for a given room at a given time. I created other sheets, which i named as the main topic. for example: Hybrid if the sheets containes mentions of hybrid as a word in the session or title of the conference. I am now stuck, since I only searched my main interest and created new sheets only for the word I choose. I now have a incomplete subdivision, since I didn't copy each and every conference. I would like to create a new sheets named OTHERS in which I import any conference I don't have in the specific sheets I created. So for example if in Day 1, row7 column 15 never appear in each new sheets I created (hybrid, liquid, ...) I want that row imported in the sheets OTHERS. Is there a way to do this, even only by finding the single row# column# and then I can manually create the table for the new sheets OTHERS. Or I just need to filter manually or use an AI (which i don't like to do since I want to use excel if possible) submitted by /u/Candid-Note6320 [link] [comments]
- Change contents of cells based on a drop downSo, I'm trying to generate a spreadsheet to make the forms we use in the office to issue keys. When people are given an apartment, we have a sheet with all the key numbers on it, and then they sign for it. At the moment, we've got 22 different PDFs and Word documents, and it doesn't work. So, what I want to do is this. I've built the template in Excel and created a Reference sheet which will have all the numbers in it. What I am trying to do is set it up so that when you use the Apartment number from a dropdown, it populates with all the key numbers. This sounds like it should be easy to do, but my Excel brain is broken. Advice would be much appreciated! submitted by /u/Hot_Syrup_1774 [link] [comments]
