Hey gang, got a sheet with several thousand cells with chunks of text in em (a paragraph or so of "issue description" type text). I'm looking for a way to highlight cells that contain a specific word as part of a bigger word.
eg - I'm looking for the word "sign". I want every cell that has a word that contains the word sign to be highlighted (consign, design, designate, etc etc).
My googling has lead me nowhere so I've come to the real pros for help

- I want to be able to highlight a specific cell, and all other cells on the sheet with the same text also get highlightedHello all, I've been searching for a solution, but I haven't been able to find it. I keep seeing similar things, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Basically I have a few columns that have names in them. Sometimes they are repeated in other columns, sometimes not. What I want to be able to do is click any cell in Column A and highlight it eg- John Doe, and then any John Doe's in the other columns also become highlighted. And I want the highlight to stick, I don't want to just click a cell in column A and it temporarily highlights the same text elsewhere. I want to highlight the cell and all other cells with the same text get highlighted and stay highlighted. That way I can continue highlighting cells in Column A, and all the matches in other columns stay highlighted. Does this make sense and is it possible? Thanks! EDIT: Specifically, I have a main list of sports player names in column A. And those names could be found in other columns if they're an offensive or defensive player. I've been highlighting each name in column A and then manually finding the names in other columns and highlighting them. I want to be able to highlight the name in Column A and if it's in any other columns it will also get highlighted. submitted by /u/im_not_ok_ok [link] [comments]
- Conditional formatting highlighted cellsHoping you can help me! Everyone at my office is a huge novice with Excel - I understand the basics but am not terribly great myself. We need one (hopefully) simple thing. Essentially, we have a dataset that we want to flag column A with a highlighted color if anything in that row is a color. Column A will always contain one of 5 words -- I've already done that with data validation. But what we want is, for instance, if I highlight cell H7 in yellow, it would then highlight A7 with the same color. I tried playing around with conditional formatting but I wasn't able to get it quite right. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give! submitted by /u/THE_GREAT_PICKLE [link] [comments]
