Privacy Setting for Excel
Our take
So I have a question for the excel experts out there. I’m still fairly new to excel and need help adjusting privacy settings on my excel. So I have a sheet the is labeled “Database” that stores a bunch of entries for invoices my company has for the year. I have another sheet in the same workbook labeled “dashboard” that has some sensitive financial information on it.
I want to be able to share it with a coworker where she can only see the database side so she can help me enter data point, however I don’t want her to be able to see the dashboard sheet. However, I want my bosses to be able to have access to it easily, they aren’t always the most tech savvy so hiding the sheet may not be the best option. Maybe try and password protect the sheet?
For reference we also only use the one drive and excel online version, I know sometimes that doesn’t offer all of excels options.

- protect all but one cellI created a excel spreadsheet for co-workers to type a date into one cell and new date ranges appear based on that one cell. The sheet also has other info that I don't want disturbed. How can I make it so that just that one cell allows for data entry without making a password for the sheet? submitted by /u/CorrectMeasurement [link] [comments]
- Mirroring a sheet to be read only?Hello, I have a rather important excel file at work to keep track of some things. I want to share one sheet of this file with others so they can reference the data when needed, but not have edit access. I tried password protecting it, but it is somewhat awkward with how often it needs to be updated. So I would like to mirror just one sheet of this file to another file. So that when the master file is updated, the mirrored file also updates with the changes. But at the same time, the mirrored file isn’t editable by users. I could share this mirrored file with others and not have to worry about someone editing or breaking the master file. Is there any way to smoothly do this? Or is there some other way of going about sharing this data I haven’t thought of. Edit: I am using the latest version of excel included with Office 365 submitted by /u/Worked-last-time [link] [comments]
- Excel Online... is there a way to stop users from deleting rows/columns but still allow them add and delete text from cells?Ok, I'm pretty stuck on this one and am not sure why. I'm using Excel Online (yea, I know... it sucks). I'm attempting to create a filterable table in A1:M1000 that users can enter data into. Where I'm stuck is this... I want users to be able to enter/delete (delete by selecting an entire row and hitting 'delete'), use drop downs, and filter A:M all within that range. I do not want them to be able to edit anything outside of that range (so N -> beyond and 1001 -> beyond) AND I do not want them to be able to add or delete rows/columns across the entire sheet. My hiccup is coming here... how do I lock the sheet while allowing users to add data to A1:M1000, select a row and hit 'delete', but NOT add or delete rows/columns? I've attempted to lock the entire sheet but unlock A1:M1000; however users then cannot select and entire row and hit delete. Anyone have any helpful tips for this? submitted by /u/Tacticool_Turtle [link] [comments]
- Need a formula to help roll over #’s if it is past a certain day and question on password protectionOkay first thing: password protection. I added it to my sheet that is in a cloud that the entire company has access to. This information is semi confidential. How protected actually is it? And do I need to take more steps to protect it? It is info about pay for specific employees that make bonuses based on a percentage of signed contracts. They need access and my boss needs access but no one else. Next: I have 2 days workbooks. One with the basic information that transfers onto the protected workbook via query. So in the password protected workbook, I am trying to calculate the bonuses. For example, the data collected is how much the payment was and who did the assisted the contract. They get 5% of that payment. However the contracts can stretch til months in advance. For example: I have one where the consult was created in January and the signing is in February. The data from the consult is in January but there is no confirmation on if it is signed. But they need to be paid on a monthly basis. So is there a way to make a formula that adds up what has been marked as true but then cuts off and stops working after a date (like Jan). So then is it possible to make another one that carries over what is left and adds it together so that if it is signed in March or another month, they will get paid for that contract in that month? If you have any questions or need clarification please ask. I am new to excel and want to figure this out submitted by /u/darezii [link] [comments]
