Trying to do a line graph but it only displays one value
Our take
Hey guys,
so I'm trying to do a line graph in excel. Basically I have 3 groups, two intervention groups and one control group. In each group are about 20 people. There are three measurement points across 15 months. I am now trying to display the progress/change of each single person across those measurement points. So like 20 lines beneath each other and one line displays one person. Problem is, when I mark the values (which I imported from SPSS) and insert a line graph it shows me one single point in it and every value in my spreadsheet is inserted as an axis label and not as a value in the graph. And also suddenly only one line and one column is marked. What am I doing wrong? How do I make it into an adequate graph?
More info: I am a beginner, my Excel is set to German, i am using a windows pc and the version is 2601.

- Why are my plotted graphs coming out different?Currently doing a chemistry report. For my x-axis I want to have cells B3,B4,B5,B6, with the axis title called 1/K, and my y-axis to have D3,D4,D5,D6 with axis title ln(Kx). But when I highlight these cells and click insert Line with markers chart is shows me 2 separate lines one for 1/k and another for ln(kx), but I just want 1 single line, I did this in the past with another line chart in which I used Time and Temperature and got a single line but now doing the same thing this happens. - (Vent) Why is this program so awful?I have to use excel for work, I chart data and utilize these charts to show individuals progress, I'm told my chart needs some condition dividing lines to indicate when certain conditions changed so that the viewers of the data can see how these changes in conditions affect the metric of performance that I am measuring. All I need is to add in a vertical line on the graph with a little label above it. And then I just need to copy this over to a word document for the progress report. WHY IS THIS SO HARD? There's no options in chart options for this, ok lets look it up. "start by adding data points to your sheet for where you want your line to go-" STOP. Why would I ever want to add in data points to my sheet just to achieve an effect on a chart? I don't want anything but my data on the sheet. Eventually I accept that is the way I have to do it. Add the data points, set x to the date I want the line to show, set y to where it should be. Follow the video tutorial exactly. Nope, chart is now broken and unreadable. I try tweaking it to see if I can just get the data to show up right, no dice. Ok lets try the more impromptu way of adding lines by just adding shapes and grouping them with the chart so I can copy it over. Excel REFUSES to group more than 2 lines. I can manage to get one grouped but not the other for some reason and not the text boxes to label this. But the main point of this rant is just the question as to why I am having to do this at all? This program has existed for almost as long as modern computers. Excel should be capable of doing all the simple chart displays and adjustments without me having to jerry rig the solution. I get that utilizing all these smaller menus and data point tricks allows for more precision but my god I should be able to find an easy way to do this and not spend my whole afternoon chasing down something that works consistently! I guess ultimately my question is how do I add a simple vertical line on 2 dates in my chart but as a greater question why is this program the way it is? submitted by /u/SHjohn1 [link] [comments]
- I'm attempting to make a graph where the data is put up against the total number of the population, but only one bar ever workshttps://imgur.com/a/SmDRXrI Status Setup 7 Shipped/Received 7 Needs 50 Total 57 So I have the above, I highlight setup through 57, and as you can see from the picture, I only get the first bar graph to work right. I... right Click >> Select Data >> uncheck Total for horizontal Add >> Series value >> click cell 57 for legend entree Then I get this first thing. If I attempt to add anything else then everything just breaks. If I click on the top of the first bar, it will highlight the 57. If I click on any of the others, it will highlight Setup to Total in one color, and 7 - 57 in another. Copilot kept telling me to do all this stuff that absolutely did not work, and following the first instructions from a search engine basically gave me the same steps I ended up doing. Co-pilot wanted me to keep making "helper cells" where I made the data, but the fact is I already have those here. submitted by /u/madd74 [link] [comments]
- Custom error bars excel problemSo I have data for a project that I made into a line chart, which took me almost 4 hours because of the fact that excel didn't want to take my data as It was, it would see it as zero's instead of normal decimal numbers. After troubleshooting that I have another problem. I have the line graph I only need to add my custom error bars. The numerical value of the numbers should be big enough to show up, but excel just doesn't want to add them. I am selecting the range and everything correctly, I've tried with completely different numbers, different graphs and converting them etc nothing works. Please help me troubleshooting I am going insane. submitted by /u/alt_bc_im_a_pussy [link] [comments]
