Creating a Box and whisker or stacked column graph with given values

Our take

Creating box and whisker and stacked column graphs can enhance your data visualization, but they often come with challenges, especially when handling IRR values. For box and whisker plots, having the original dataset is essential, yet in Power BI, you may face limitations. Stacked column graphs that rely on total values can misrepresent your data, particularly when negative values impact the stacking. If you're looking for effective solutions in either Excel or Power BI, your insights and experiences could help others navigate these complexities.

Hello,

So I'm working on creating 5 box and whisker/stacked column graphs with given min, median, max, Q1, and Q3 IRR values however I realized that box and whisker needs to have the original data set to make a chart in excel. I'm also using Power BI but that really isn't working out for me either. My main issue with the stacked column graph is that it's using the total values of the IRR instead of finding the difference.

So I used the differences to make a stacked column but now I'm encountering the issue that my min values and some of Q1 values are negative so they aren't stacking the right amounts or a certain quartile will just get cut off at zero and not have the right gap size.

If anyone knows how to do this in Power BI or excel that'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
