How to move around in formula with arrow keys on excel for mac
Our take
Navigating Excel on a Mac can be challenging, especially when you’re just starting. It sounds like you're experiencing some common frustrations with formula navigation and data visibility. When using the arrow keys to move around in a formula, be sure to check your settings; sometimes, the behavior can feel inconsistent. Additionally, if your computations don't appear immediately, adjusting the column width is a helpful workaround. You're not alone in these experiences, and there are solutions to enhance your Excel journey.
Man, I'm just starting to use excel but please help.
in formula, if I command + shift + down to highlight all data and command + delete to come back to active cell, I can't move my arrow key left or right to select more data set. I have to use my cursor to do so.
and if i push enter after the formula, the computation doesnt show up right away. i have to mess with the column width just to see it.
Am I tripping or is this a bug? please help.

- Excel on Mac shifts between open sheets when, while entering a function, I hit Cmd+Shift+Arrow or Ctrl+Shift+Arrow, WHY?So I use Excel on my Macbook. Whenever I try entering a function like SUM and I want to select a range with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Arrow it switches to another open Excel file and I don't understand why. It happens 95% of the time, and I'm not sure if there's a weird shortcut mapping or something weirder going on. Has anyone gone through this? Thanks submitted by /u/lessavyfav68 [link] [comments]
- What is my malfunction when trying to edit an existing formula rule in the Conditional Formatting menu?https://preview.redd.it/dnn2yluq06vg1.png?width=507&format=png&auto=webp&s=b825b8cc3b31f0640ef22acd35a806429d0d0d15 This has been an issue for me for years and I've never spent the time to figure out the issue. Not every time, but most of the time, when trying to edit the formula for a conditional formatting rule, it is very difficult to navigate around inside the input box - for instance, if I wanted to wrap the existing rule in an AND() function to add a second condition, sometimes I can just click the cursor at the beginning of the formula and it works fine, and sometimes I can use the arrow keys to move the cursor back and forth, but other times, clicking doesn't do anything to place the cursor, and using the arrow keys inserts a cell reference instead of moving the cursor. I've had this issue in the last several years' worth of Excel versions and across several different Windows 7, 10, and 11 machines. I'm hoping it's me being an idiot and not some vestigial Excel quirk. Thanks in advance for any advice! Edit: quick note that this happens whether I'm trying to edit the formula in the screenshotted view here, or if I click the arrow icon to break out the input box by itself. That doesn't seem to be a factor. submitted by /u/leostotch [link] [comments]
- Excel formula automatically rewriting itself??Hi all, this is a really odd problem to run into and I am unsure how to proceed from here. I am currently entering data and I have Excel performing an =SUM(B5:AC5) for my data that is being entered. Because the data entry can go pretty fast sometimes, I would keep entering data past AC5 before I realize what happened. When I look at my SUM column, Excel has flagged my =SUM(B5:AC5) formula with the error below, which is fine and whatever, but it is automatically changing my =SUM(B5:AC5) formula to =SUM(B5:AF5) or something of similar depending on what column I stopped at. Just for reference, data from AD5 to AO5 is being summed up in another column with SUM=(AD5:AO5). Formula error being flagged by Excel I have no idea why it is doing this and I tried to ignore error, but it still automatically rewriting my formula anyways! This worksheet and formula worked smoothly 4 months ago so I don't know what is going on. submitted by /u/WildKhanine [link] [comments]
- Show Formulas Shortcut for Excel on MacHello, I have asked all the AIs already and also googled my way through the internet but nothing seems to work. Disclaimer: I am using a German keyboard and Excel on a Mac. I am DESPERATELY looking for the show formulas shortcut, cannot find it. Some sources say Control + ^ (left key to 1) but that does not work. I have really tried all other possibilities. Anyone, please? submitted by /u/Secret-Beat-5214 [link] [comments]
