Our take
I’m excited to share my professional expense tracker along with a web app I created to automate the process, both available for free. After years of refining a powerful spreadsheet that provides a clear annual view of my cost of living and savings rate, I sought to enhance that experience. Many existing apps fell short of my needs, so I designed a solution that maintains the expansive feel of a spreadsheet while streamlining workflows.
I’ve been using a really powerful spreadsheet for years. It’s a pretty solid tool for getting an annual view of your cost of living and savings rate, and I’ve spent a lot of time refining it.
Recently, I decided to take that same logic and turn it into a web app as an alternative. Most apps I tried didn't really fit what I wanted, so I made something that keeps that "large screen" feel of a spreadsheet but with a faster workflow.
I'm sharing both for free because it could be helpful for someone and I'm curious to see which approach people actually prefer.

- I built an Excel personal net worth trackerI built a Excel spreadsheet template (get it here) to track my net worth in detail, across all my bank accounts, brokerage accounts, and alt assets too. It's got formulas and some spend categorization automations built into it, so hopefully it's helpful to you! Tried a few apps but always ended back in Excel because it's just faster. So I built a proper invoice tracking dashboard in Excel. - Making a fillable form with dropdowns and sections that can be added and moved easily**SEE ATTACHED IMAGE** I am attempting to improve this spreadsheet. I have a decent amount of experience with Excel but I am unfamiliar with the terminology require to describe the exact functions I am attempting to implement. The function of the sheet is to log various statuses and information pertaining to ladders and their inspection status. Each workbook has a header section and a footer section to diffentiate between clients. The sections that detail the individual ladders need to be moveable / re-order more easily, and also be able to insert a blank ladder section for any new ladders that come into service. The reason excel was selected is for access reasons. All of our clients use excel, but if there is an objectively better tool for the job that is part of the Office suite that people can use via the web or with their Office licence then I will consider that.
