my excel freeze for even simple things like boldening/italicising cells. why? solution?

i have an excel file i maintain. its a small file, not big, a few kb. but sometimes, when formatting cells, say bolding text or italicising, my excel stops responding and freezes. the cells arent links, they just contain bog standard text of one or two words.
it doesnt happen all the time, but occasionally. but its still annoying.
my own laptop has excel 2021. my work laptop has 365 and sometimes it happens there too, so i think this is some sort of problem with excel generally.
has anyone else experienced this and can advise on a solution? thakns

- 'Research' freezes my Excel 16Alt + Left click is a shortcut for research in Excel 16, and it is causing an annoying problem for me. When I open any excel workbook and "Alt + Left click on a cell for the first time", my excel stops working for roughly 3 minutes. It happens even on an empty sheet. After 3 minutes, Excel eventually works. Alt + clicking on a cell does not freeze Excel anymore. But the problem is not gone. Normally, moving from a cell to another by clicking should take zero time. But, when I click on a cell and then alt + click on another, the cursor stutters for a split second like running a game on a computer that fails to meet the requirements. I asked AIs to fix the problem but they failed equally. Things I tried: Disabling Research through VBA. - I ran a code on the immediate panel(the thing that Ctrl + G opens). The code looks like : "Application.CommandBars("Research").Enabled = False" - I don't like it because its only temporary. - Most importantly, the 3 minute freeze is still there. (I really hope to know why) Disabling Hardware Acceleration - It didnt work. Resetting Microsoft Office Applications through Windows Setting. - Even this didnt work. - Excel freezing on new work laptopRecently received a Windows 11 HP I7 G8 with 64gb RAM with a 1 tb hard drive running M365. The old laptop was converted to windows 11 and M365. Smaller hard drive but upgraded ram to 64gb. Old laptop had no problems with PQ or VBA. New laptop freezes just trying remove rows or sometimes just navigating around a simple file. - Excel buffering while working between 2 workbooksHi everyone, Since the second last Office update, working in split screen with multiple excels has become very tiresome. When working between 2+ workbooks, my excel suddenly needs a few seconds to "load" the excel book before I can start interacting with it. Since the same update, it is almost impossible to work in a shared excel because everytime an edit is made by a different user, it has to restart to reflect the changes. While I can probably learn to live with these issues, I would prefer not to. It is quite frustrating. I have tried looking for this issue only but haven't had any luck. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any insight on how to fix these problems. Thanks! - Stop excel from jumping while scrollingSo I don't know how to frame this more accurately. I am using excel for some light text analysis purposes (yeah yeah there is better and I should probably just use different software). When I scroll, excel keeps putting the cell I am scrolling to on top of the screen, but this confuses my brain. I want to have the cell in the middle of the screen so I can situate it to the last one. Any chance someone understands what I mean, and knows a solution?
