Set your bar to turn red only when it crosses 50%

If you're looking to change the color of a bar in your spreadsheet so that it turns red when it exceeds 50% but remains a different color at 100%, you might find the built-in options limited.

A user wants a bar to turn red only when it crosses 50%, and the tool won't let them do it. That is a failure of design, not a failure of the user. The settings offered colors and "other irrelevant options," and the "more rules" section led nowhere. This person is not asking for something exotic. They want a conditional visual cue, a basic data-communication need that any spreadsheet should handle without a workaround. Our opinion is plain: if a user has to ask whether they can manually change one bar's color without affecting the rest, the interface has already lost the plot.

What this means in practical terms is that the software is prioritizing feature lists over actual workflows. The person who posted this question knows what they want to see: a threshold. They understand their data well enough to know that crossing 50% matters. The tool, however, treats every bar as an identical unit with a uniform color setting, as if all values exist on the same plane of importance. That is the old spreadsheet mentality, static, rigid, indifferent to context. An AI-native approach would not make the user hunt through unrelated menus. It would recognize the intent: "I want this bar to change color when it passes a specific number." That is a simple conditional rule, and it should be one click away, not a puzzle.

The frustration here is instructive. It shows that even small gaps in logic create real friction. Users do not need more options buried in nested menus. They need tools that understand the patterns they are trying to express. A bar that turns red at 50% is not a cosmetic preference. It is a signal. It tells you, at a glance, which items have crossed a line that matters. That is the kind of human-centered thinking that transforms a spreadsheet from a grid of numbers into a decision-making surface. The technology exists to deliver that. The question is whether the product is built to listen.

The fix is not a manual workaround for one bar. The fix is to demand that the software meet the user halfway. If you are building or choosing a spreadsheet tool, test it against this exact scenario. Can you set a conditional color on a single bar based on a threshold, without scripting or hacks? If the answer is no, the tool is still living in the past. The user who posted this question deserves better. So do you.

i coudnt find this option inside the bar settings, all i saw is the colors and other unrelevent options to what i want, i tried playing around the 'more rules' in the data rules, but coudnt find anything, is there at least a way to do it manual, like by changing the color of one of the bars without changing the rest?
