Transform form data into clickable links without cluttering your spreadsheet

Hi everyone, I’m working on an Excel sheet that receives data from Microsoft Form responses through Power Automate.

If you have ever watched a clean, automated data feed turn into a static wall of plain text, you know the frustration. The user who posted this question is facing a problem that should not still exist in 2025: data flows perfectly from Microsoft Forms into Excel, but the web addresses arrive as dead text instead of clickable links. And the constraint is real, no helper column, no extra width, because the spreadsheet lives embedded on a SharePoint site. This is not a niche complaint; it is a symptom of how legacy spreadsheet logic treats data as something to store rather than something to act on.

The request is simple in spirit but reveals a deeper friction. When you automate form responses, you want the output to be immediately useful, not a cleanup project. Asking for a hyperlink conversion without adding a column is reasonable. Yet the standard workarounds, helper columns, manual HYPERLINK formulas, or VBA scripts, either bloat the sheet or break when the file is embedded. The user's instinct to keep the spreadsheet lean and clean is smart. A wide, cluttered sheet is harder to navigate, harder to share, and harder to maintain. But the real issue is that the tool itself is not adapting to the workflow.

This is exactly where the promise of an AI-native spreadsheet becomes tangible. Instead of requiring the user to write a formula or maintain a separate column, the system should recognize a URL pattern on input and offer to make it clickable inline. No extra column. No manual step. The data stays clean, the link stays functional, and the spreadsheet stays focused on what matters, the information, not the formatting workaround. The user should not have to choose between automation and usability. The tool should deliver both.

The practical takeaway is this: if your spreadsheet is asking you to add columns to fix what automation already delivered, the tool is working against you. Look for solutions that treat data as live and interactive by default, not as raw text waiting for manual polish. The user who posted this is right to expect more. The next generation of spreadsheets should handle a URL the same way it handles a number, automatically, intelligently, and without adding clutter. That is the standard worth exploring.

I have an excel that is automatically fed data from Microsoft Form responses (via Power Automate), which includes link to web addresses, however it just pastes as plain text.

Can I have these links automatically converted into clickable hyperlinks, without the use of a helper column? The Excel is embedded into a Sharepoint site, so don't want to have the Excel too 'wide' and would prefer to avoid adding unnecessary columns.
