Starting a new sales job comes with enough uncertainty without having to manually count your own bonuses. The user who posted this question is staring at a simple but persistent problem: how to track a rolling commission structure without losing track of what carries over. Their math is straightforward. Every 10,000 in sales earns 500 dollars. But the rollover detail is where most spreadsheets fall apart, and that is exactly where a smarter formula changes the game.

The request here is for two outputs from one running total. First, the number of complete 10,000 increments. Second, the leftover amount that carries into the next month. In the example, 28,000 in April should yield 2 bonuses and an 8,000 carryover. That is not a complicated calculation on paper. But doing it manually, month after month, invites errors. A single missed zero or a forgotten carryover throws off the entire bonus picture. The user is not asking for a miracle. They are asking for a formula that does the repetitive thinking for them.

This is where a spreadsheet becomes more than a digital ledger. It becomes a tool that respects your time and your attention. The formulas needed here are not exotic. A simple division and a modulo operation handle the heavy lifting. One cell tells you how many full 10,000 blocks you have reached. Another cell gives you the remainder. Once those two cells exist, the monthly bonus amount is just a multiplication away. The user can see their progress at a glance, adjust their sales targets, and plan around the carryover without second-guessing the numbers.

What stands out is the practical mindset behind the request. The user is not complaining about the bonus structure or asking for advice on how to negotiate a better deal. They are taking ownership of their own tracking. That is the attitude that turns a spreadsheet from a passive record into an active part of your workday. If you are in a similar position, do not wait for your manager to send you a report. Build the formula yourself. Test it with your own numbers. Make it yours. The next time you hit 10,000, you will already know what happens next.

For every 10,000 in sales I bring in I will receive a $500 bonus at the end of the month, rolling over into the next month.

I am trying to find a formula that will check my running total for the column and tell me how many 10,000s I can divide by evenly as well as having a remainder to copy over(they can/will be separate cells)
