Centering a bar graph data based on horizontal axis categories rather than by series.
Our take
I don't know if this is the kind of question normally posed to this community and it is largely aesthetic, but here goes.
I am making a graph for data that had technical replicates for each gene (A, B, and C). The genes (102 pqm1, 102 N2, and 96 N2) are on the horizontal axis and are the major category for the graph. Some replicates had a value of '0', which I do want to represent on the graph. The issue that one replicate (102 N2, C) failed and was removed from the data set, but even if I don't include that empty cell in the selection box for the series, Excel centers that category around the second series in that category. This makes it look almost as though there is another '0' value, when in fact that data is simply nonexistent
If anyone knows how to individually move bars in this type of graph, or how to make a bar graph that is tied to x-axis categories but not series, I'd appreciate any advice!

- How do you vary colors of bar graph by day of the week?I feel really stupid for this because I am searching all over and not seeing answers for this. Like is this a basic option I am missing that is so obvious nobody asks it? Basically I have a bar graph for data points throughout the year, I want something like Mondays red, tuesdays blue, wednesdays green, etc etc The option to "vary colors by point" seems to alternate every 14 or so colors and there doesn't seem to be a way to change the interval, that I can tell. Obviously I can manually change colors but this is excel and there has gotta be a way to alternate that rather than do it for each individual point. Especially since I have multiple "yearly" charts I'd like to do this for. submitted by /u/machinelock [link] [comments]
- Making series specific categories on a box and whisker plotI am trying to make a box and whisker plot from a dataset with four series and many categories. Each series has its own unique categories. When I plot each series individually, the box and whisker plots look fine, but when I plot them together they get really squished. I found out that Excel plots each series as though it has data for each category, instead of its own set of categories. This makes the resulting boxes look really squished. I filled in some blanks with 0's to understand what was going on. https://preview.redd.it/7bzp08tnhp0h1.png?width=1579&format=png&auto=webp&s=147114c253d508a82fc0c86b83ed2362a6dada5d Is there a way to plot these different series together so that each of them has its own separate set of categories? submitted by /u/Real-Alternative-653 [link] [comments]
- Custom error bars excel problemSo I have data for a project that I made into a line chart, which took me almost 4 hours because of the fact that excel didn't want to take my data as It was, it would see it as zero's instead of normal decimal numbers. After troubleshooting that I have another problem. I have the line graph I only need to add my custom error bars. The numerical value of the numbers should be big enough to show up, but excel just doesn't want to add them. I am selecting the range and everything correctly, I've tried with completely different numbers, different graphs and converting them etc nothing works. Please help me troubleshooting I am going insane. submitted by /u/alt_bc_im_a_pussy [link] [comments]
- Rearranging data to make a line chart with multiple seriesI want to make a set of line charts with multiple series each with the following: Sampling Date is on the x-axis | SSILT63_2 (%) (or any variable from columns C-E) is on the y-axis, and each series in the chart is named after the different points in Column A. I tried selecting Columns A-C to make the first chart, but instead of making multiple series, it made a single series instead. https://preview.redd.it/jnkd63xgmcwg1.png?width=3174&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e4bcaebafddd8bbbcf875d14e53b1e87a8a83bb It works when I transpose the data with the points as different columns and the dates as the rows, but the issue then is that I have to manually arrange it, which takes a lot of time for a single variable. https://preview.redd.it/cfn4ay6jpcwg1.png?width=2682&format=png&auto=webp&s=899d24ad87eda26956b8e22f24655ec5a0f68f5e I am wondering if there is a function or feature to either: * Have Excel recognise different series from Column A in image 1 * Quickly / automatically rearrange the data from image 1 to look like the table in image 2 Edit: I am using Excel for Mac, Version 16.108 (26041219) submitted by /u/Real-Alternative-653 [link] [comments]
