I saved a file in Excel and it crashes and I can't recover my changes.

So I edit my Excel files, and save them frequently. Auto Save is on. I'm not connected to One Drive. Suddenly, Excel will crash and I've lost literally days worth of changes to my spreadsheets. Everything I've seen online has been no help at all. The changes to the files have just disappeared. Anyone else seeing this issue? I'm running Windows 11 Pro with Office Home and Student 2016.
Edit: Restore Previous Version does not work. Recover Unsaved Workbook does not work. I saved multiple times throughout the last three days and did not rely on Auto Save. All of my changes just disappeared after Excel "locked-up".

- Excel File reverted to previous version after power outageI had an excel file simply called "bills" that I've been using for the families accounting. I run some server stuff on the computer so its on 99% of the time. Today, the power cut out for about a minute and after rebooting the excel file got reverted to a version from November 2025. I have for sure saved the filed weekly if not daily since then, have autosave on, I have powered off the computer for updates and whatnot and reopened it and continued without problems, but now suddenly all that work has been lost. I have checked the auto recover feature, again only versions from way back last year. I've been told to check the temp files, but I'm either doing something wrong or their not excel files (made copies and trying to rename the extensions to .xls, still just jibberish). I'm freaking out because its how I budget around bills and taxes and whatnot. Its saved locally only so no cloud backups, there was another copy of it called like Bills.xlsx.xlsx but its also been reverted. I don't think I have any recent restore points either, but everything else on the computer is up to date after the power outage so I have no idea what happened. The ONLY thing that I can find that got reverted was excel, and I have no clue why or how, but urgently need to fix it. - Lost a whole day's work despite Autosave and OneDrive/SharepointI'm at a loss for words. I'm working on a thesis I'm using an excel sheet in a shared onedrive/sharepoint folder with my supervisor, though I'm working on the excel sheet in the app with autosave on and everything, rather than directly in the browser. This morning, as I began working on the excel sheet, the window crashed, and when it restarted again I just clicked away the massive window with recovery files (because this has happened many times, and it's never reverted any data before, I'm working via the cloud, and the window is massive and annoying). Only then did I realize the version I had up was missing an entire full-day's work. I went into the onedrive/sharepoint in my web browser and went into the change history, and that too was missing the whole of yesterday. I went into %appdata% but could find no recovery file, probably because I dismissed them. How did this happen, and is there any way to recover the lost data, like some recycle bin for the recovery file or something? - Excel file recovery optionsThe company I work for uses microsoft teams and one-drive to manage all of their files and file sharing systems. I have a file on my desktop on my work laptop that I go into, edit, and save essentially every day. I had this file open this morning after making edits last night. I made a few more edits, saved it and then closed out. When I went to open the file this evening I was met with a message below the toolbar that said “latest uploaded failed” with the options of "save a copy" or "discard changes". At this point the edits I made this morning were still visible in the file so I thought the message just related to the edits from this morning when I was moving filters around, since I had the file open last night and saved it at that point. I clicked "discard changes", the file closed out and when I reopened the file it had restored a version from February. How do I find the copy of this file from last night or is it completely gone? I would think that since I opened and saved this file 100+ times since the February that there would be a more recent version? Especially given this is the first time I ever got this error message. - Excel .xlsm files showing “We found a problem with some content” after savingHi everyone, Good day. I’m currently experiencing an issue with Microsoft Excel involving macro-enabled files (.xlsm) that contain VBA code and are stored in Microsoft OneDrive. Scenario: I open an .xlsm file (with VBA), make edits or even just open and save it. When I reopen the same file, I get the error:“We found a problem with some content… Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can?” Additional details: Files created in 2025 were working before, but now they are no longer working even if I did not make any changes. The issue now happens consistently even without modifying the file. What I’ve tried: Opening and repairing the file Saving as a new file Checking OneDrive sync Has anyone encountered this issue recently, especially with OneDrive syncing and .xlsm files? Any suggestions or fixes would be greatly appreciated.
