Pasting from cells into Outlook NOT keeping source formatting
Our take
I’m going to do my best to explain this in a way that makes sense:
For work, I have an Excel spreadsheet containing all the templates of the emails I send most frequently. Normally, I double-click into the appropriate cell, CTRL-A, CTRL-C, and then go over to Outlook and CTRL-V into an email. Normally, this keeps the source formatting, but as of yesterday morning (March 26, 2026) it isn’t. Now I have to manually add all the bolded and underlined sections to every email and though it seems small, I can’t stress enough how much it’s thrown off my workflow.
I CAN single-click the cell, CTRL-C, and CTRL-V the entire thing, border and all, into Outlook, but then I have to copy the contents, delete the border, and re-paste, and that’s stupid. I can also no longer copy part of the text within a cell; if I copy only a word, when I paste, it’s as though I copied everything.
I’ve tried restarting my computer, shutting down my computer, checking for Windows and Microsoft updates, logging in and out of MS365, and extensively Googling the issue. I’ve checked all my paste setting in Outlook and they’re set to default to “keep source formatting”. I’m on Windows 11 and the latest versions of Excel and Outlook, and due to work I can’t revert to an earlier version. I’m going insane; please help me.

- Cut/Paste - Drag/Drop not working Excel 365I have been fighting with this issue for months now and am at my wits end. This originally started on my PC computer but has followed me to my new Mac. If I try to Cut and Paste, or Drag and drop, if it is single cells, or rows of data, I get a spinning rainbow and then no changes. This even occurs when I want to insert rows in my sheet. It seems like it is timing out for some reason. I do keep my files on OneDrive. Is there a setting somewhere I have overlooked to allow it time to make these changes without timing out? TIA. submitted by /u/Kristophorous [link] [comments]
- Pasting to Excel isn't working correctly - updating text to column makes it worseI've been copying and pasting data into excel the past few weeks just fine, but recently it takes every line break as a new cell. I've tried resetting the text to column fields like everyone suggests, but all it does is keep the top row of my text. The other rows just disappear. submitted by /u/xturvr [link] [comments]
- Paste Without Format NOT ctrl+VI looked everywhere but couldn't find a satisfactory answer (which probably means it doesn't exist). I am managing a shared excel file with people who will copy and paste information in and will be able to grab that information and do things with it. The issue, is every time they paste something it breaks my conditional formatting which is the main way I am able to sort through and organize what they give me. Is there a way to have the default past as paste without formatting because I can not control how they paste the information in. (No asking them to do ctrl+Shift+v will not work, please don't even recommend it.) If there are any other ideas on how to deal with this issue, please let me know. EDIT: NO CTRL+SHIFT+V I am not the one pasting these values in, others are! Conclusion: There isn't (currently) a way to do this, but the general consensus is to have them paste all the information into its own thing and then use power query to get the data I need. Thank you all for the advice! submitted by /u/United-Twist-3839 [link] [comments]
- Font formatting of a calculation dashboard KEEPS reverting every time the data in the other sheets is updatedI am at my wits end, every time I open this spreadsheet the formatting of these cells (supposed to be large and extremely readable to low-tech users on same team) reverts back to Calibri size 11 for some reason. I even created a custom cell style to try and force it to stay that way and I can see that it's selected in the menu, but not reflected whatsoever. Is it just impossible to format cells with a constantly changing calculation? What can I do here?? I feel like I have gone through every formatting constraint/rule there is to try and force it to behave but it always changes back, even if its not right away. It's a spreadsheet stored on sharepoint primarily but I don't know if that makes a difference. Advice appreciated. 😞 submitted by /u/vailette [link] [comments]
