When Your Spreadsheet Stops Sorting Past Row 566

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating issue with sorting in your spreadsheet after cell 566.

When your spreadsheet stops sorting past row 566, the problem isn't really about row 566. It's about the moment when a tool you trusted stops behaving like a tool and starts behaving like a puzzle. The user who posted this story did everything right: they Googled, they highlighted cells, they tried to force the formatting to cooperate. But the spreadsheet kept treating everything below that invisible line as a separate universe. That's not a user error. That's a design failure dressed up as a quirk.

What happened here is a familiar story in the world of traditional spreadsheets. The software makes assumptions about your data, where it begins, where it ends, what belongs together, and those assumptions are invisible until they break. The user is left guessing, afraid to delete anything, and spending more time wrestling with the interface than actually working with the numbers. The fact that they had to rewrite their entire post because the image upload option didn't work only adds to the frustration. Two separate systems failed them in the same session. That's not productivity. That's friction.

This is where the conversation about AI-native tools becomes practical, not theoretical. A spreadsheet that can't recognize its own data boundaries isn't smart. It's brittle. An AI-native approach would see the entire dataset, understand its structure, and adapt when new rows are added. It wouldn't force the user to manually highlight cells just to restore formatting that should have carried forward automatically. The technology exists to make spreadsheets that learn from how you work, not ones that force you to learn their arbitrary limits. The user in this story didn't need more Google searches. They needed a tool that treats their data as a coherent whole, not a collection of numbered rows with a hard stop at 566.

So here is the concrete takeaway: if you are spending time fighting your spreadsheet's hidden boundaries, you are not the problem. The tool is. The question is whether you accept that friction as normal or start exploring something built to handle the complexity you actually deal with. The row 566 problem is fixable. But the real fix isn't a workaround. It's a better foundation.

After cell 566, my spreadsheet stopped automatically formatting. I highlighted a bunch of cells underneath #566 and finally got it to format uniformly, but now it won't sort numbers 567-569 from A-Z in the "C" column. It appears that the program thinks anything underneath #566 is a new spreadsheet.

I've Googled and tried a bunch of stuff. It's maddening. I do not want to accidentally delete this.
