From RAG to Agentic AI: Building the Next Generation of Intelligent Enterprise Systems
Our take
The evolution of intelligent enterprise systems has progressed through distinct phases, and we’ve been at the forefront. Over the past several years, we've navigated three generations of retrieval systems, each addressing limitations of its predecessor. This experience has yielded critical insights into building truly intelligent workflows. Explore what we've learned as we move beyond Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) towards agentic AI. For deeper understanding of underlying language model behavior, see our recent article, "Language Models Can Control Their Own Attention."

Over the past several years, I have worked through three successive generations of intelligent retrieval systems, each solving problems the previous generation could not. Here is what I have learned.
